Thomas M. (Tom) McDonald brings extensive experience to Capstan in the fields of wealth management, investment planning, and estate investment planning. He has written briefs and white papers regarding such topics over his 31-year career. Tom has extensive background in planning; strategy development; and custom application development. He brings the personal attention and technical experience which astute investors expect and strives to help individuals and families realize the legacy that they desire.

Prior to his current role at Capstan Financial Consulting Group, for eight years Tom anchored the Fifth Third Securities investment team throughout Florida’s gulf coast. He began his career at Barnett Bank Securities, moving quickly through their ranks and held numerous senior positions with Barnett’s legacy firms before deciding to leave Banc of America Investment Services in 2004.

Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and finance from Florida Southern College and is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP) certification holder. In 2016, he was voted a “5 Star Wealth Manager”. He has two children and coaches outdoor youth sports. Tom has been a member of the Sarasota community for over 40 years.
